Medical transcriptionists transcribe dictation for medical reports such as discharge summaries, emergency room visits, physical examinations, patient histories, consultations, and operations. They use machines and accessories such as transcribing machines, foot pedals, and headsets to assess recordings by health care professionals such as doctors, nurses, and surgeons. Medical transcriptionists translate medical jargon and abbreviations into traditional form. They are also required to eliminate information that is not important to the final outcome of the report.
